I have finally gotten my taste back.  We have flown to Florida, arriving on the 8th of November.  Enjoyed a really great Thanksgiving at our daughter's house in Tampa.

Taste IS Everything!

On July 11, I started taking Terbinafine for a toe nail fungus as prescribed by my Podiatrist.  Because he failed to tell me about any possible side effects, I was unaware it was the culprit when I started losing taste of foods.  At first it was just slight, but it kept getting worse, until I completely lost all taste or worse, some things tasted horrible.  A cookie or bread tasted like wallpaper paste.  Water or any liquid has a horrid taste.  Yes, I said, "Has" because even though I quit taking them after 53 days, on Sept 2nd, I still have very little taste.  I have found that I can slightly taste Mexican food like Refried Beans, Burritos, Tortilla Chips, so that is mostly what I've been living on.  Consequently I have continued to lose weight.  I am now down to 354.5 lbs, 113 total, or 93 on Medifast.

By the way, I only found out it was the Terbinafine/Lamisil when I started looking on the Internet for why I was losing my taste.  Seems this is quite common with this prescription as is the absence of Podiatrists telling their patients about it!

I'm hoping to get back my sense of taste before we go back to Florida on November 8th.

Half Way to 5% Club

I have made it to 6 months on Maintenance without getting away from my goal that I met on February 25th.  I am learning how to maintain.  My weight has fluctuated between 272 & 260.  Peanut Butter is still a problem.  I found individual packets at Costco that I bought and that is helping with portion control with it.  Still finding lots of food that just doesn't excite nor taste as good as it did before I lost 100 lbs!  I do like HuHot Mongolian Grill food!  I still need to learn to NOT eat in the evening, and when I do, to eat carrots or such type of food!

Chugging along in Maintenance.....Discovered the secret for me! Fiber & Protein!

I found out my problem was eating a rather large and tasty salad every day.  Granted this was a salad that could just have easily been used to feel a family of 5, but I was greatly enjoying it.  Meanwhile I wasn't losing any more weight.  So at the end of May, I checked my nutritional scorecard on MyPlate on Livestrong.com.  It showed that I was quite low on Fiber and Protein.  So, I changed my daily plan. 

For Breakfast I have 1 cup of Kashi GoLean Cinnamon Crumbles Cereal, with 1/2 cup of 1% milk.
For lunch I have a 4 oz grilled Hamburger on 2 slices of 100% Whole Wheat Brownberry Bread.
For Dinner I have a high fiber Spanish TV dinner, either Amy's or El Charrito brands.
I am averaging 1200 calories Net per day after subtracting for an average of 50 minutes walking.

On June 12 I saw 259.5 on the scale, the first time in decades I have been this low.  So, I have lost 88 lbs since Aug 5th and 108 since Feb 2011.  I have been in Maintenance since Feb 25, 2012.

Back in COLD Iowa, but Metabolism is working again!!!


Just had to pop back in to tell y'all that my metabolism seems to be back working again and I'm down 3.6 lbs from my goal!!!  In "Habits of Health," Dr. Andersen says it may take a few months after you reach Maintenance before your metabolism starts working properly again.

I think we came back north to Iowa too soon because it has been very cold, some mornings bitter cold...in the 30's.  Lawn almost needed a hay baler. :)  We have been kept busy working in the yard and shopping for clothes after I took 4 leaf bags full of my old FAT clothes to Goodwill!  Finding Polo Shirts with a pocket at a reasonable price has been the most difficult.

When I turned the water back on it the house, we had a leak in the faucet in the tub in the upstairs bathroom, so we had to get a plumber out to fix that = $182!  It has been so cold that I have had to keep a space heater running next to my desk on the level just above the basement.  Our furnace is making an awful noise, so we are finally replacing it along with the A/C, both of which are original equipment....the house was built in 1961.   Also replacing the built in oven this week, which is the same age.  For some time now we have had to add time on all recipes we put in the oven because it was losing its power.  Took forever to heat up too!  The quickness of the one in Florida convinced us it was time to replace this one.

IF it warms up this week, I plan to get air in the bike tires and give that a whirl.  Because of the cold weather, all my walking has been in Malls.

Finally back from a Detour I've been on while in Maintenance!

Well, I can now tell you that starting with the addition of fruit in Transition and into Maintenance, I gained 10 lbs!  I came close to panicking, but hung in there.  Found out just how important it is to measure everything, because when I went back to doing that, it began coming back off.  I am eating on average, after deducting for exercise, (walking 30 minutes daily,) 1200 calories.  According to My Plan, my TEE is 3177, not deducting for exercise!  So, I suspect there might be some fallacies in that equation.  When I get back to Iowa, I'm going to give bike riding a try, so I will keep you posted on how everything goes from here on.

I HAVE REACHED MY GOAL!!! TOUCHDOWN!!!

My weigh-in was on Thursday and I lost 3.3 lbs, which put me below my goal of 265!  Not it is on to Transition!
To celebrate I got my wedding ring resized from 15 1/2 to size 13!~ 
The first day of Transition I had 1 cup of mashed potatoes!

My body has decided to set my goal at 265!

I gained .9 this week.  Not a biggie, but considering that I have upped my exercise to 30 minutes a day, this shouldn't have happened. I seem to be starved all the time, so I have decided that my body is rebelling and it is time to call a halt, so I have reset my goal to 265....2.9 lbs to go!  My original goal was 280, so this is still 15 lbs below that!

So I need to get to Transition and into Maintenance ASAP.

One last shot to determine final GOAL.......Mission Accomplished!!!

I have been having such a terrible time losing lately that I was considering shooting for a total of 100 lbs since last February (counting 20 lbs lost before starting Medifast), because I am getting tired of this diet and starting to miss normal food.  I KNOW I'm not going to wait 20 weeks to lose the extra 22 lbs needed to get to the goal of 250. (The amount left last week)

So, I decided to give it one more week of totally On Program, no extras, very little salsa etc.  It worked!  I lost 5 lbs this week!!  Whoo Hoo!!!!

Total loss since last February = 100.5  (80.5 on Medifast!)

ONLY SEVENTEEN POUNDS LEFT TO GOAL!!!!

Ketosis has me moving towards goal again!

Today was WI and it is so great to be back in ketosis again. I'm going to tell any Dr. no more antibiotics until I reach Maintenance.

I lost 3.2 lbs this week. So, I'm down to 276.2 lbs. I have friends in Australia that were congratulating me on my weight loss and told me how much they weigh in Kilograms (kg.) I think I agree with them that listing your weight in kg looks much better! LOL~! I now weigh 125 kg.
